The ultimate result of a PSG study is a Polysomnographic report. SleepXML infrastructure allows having the PSG report very flexible and very powerful at the same time. The SleepXML report is done in a platform-independent way on the basis of open public standards, which makes its archive life unlimited, contrary to such proprietary formats as Microsoft Word and Excel. Since all XML templates and data files are ASCII text do*****ents, their shelf life is infinite. XML technologies allow to combine a number of data-bearing XML files into one user interface, like what we see on the Figure 6. Here, on this sample report, the top section is based on the Patient and Record data XML file converted to HTML by an appropriate XSLT template, the middle section is the trends plot – from the trends SVG file, and the bottom section here is Oximetry and Events Statistic – from the statistic XML file. Since a Query could be executed against any XML file, all the reports become searchable, so summary statistics could be collected from an archive of PSG reports for research or clinical purposes.
